Why count words?
Essays and assignments come with word limits. Articles and scripts are planned by length. A word counter tells you exactly where you stand while you write, instead of after you finish. This one also estimates reading time (at an average 200 words per minute) and speaking time (at 130 words per minute, a natural speaking pace) — useful for presentations, speeches and video scripts.
How to use it
- Type in the box, or paste text from any document.
- All counts update live with every keystroke. There is no button to press.
- Check the "most used words" list to spot words you repeat too often.
Frequently asked questions
How is a word counted?
A word is a group of letters or numbers separated by spaces. "Well-known" counts as one word, and numbers count as words too.
Is there a limit?
No. Counting happens on your device, so long documents are fine.
